Prayer

Pray? Do I really need to pray? What if I don't know how? If prayer is talking to God, then who am I that He should listen to me? Honestly, I don't even know what to say to God. I don't know where to start!

Since the beginning of creation God desired to have a relationship with mankind. He created each one of us in His image in that we can think, we can create, we have emotions, and we are capable of having a loving relationship with Him. No other created thing shares these common traits with Him.  Only human beings can enjoy an emotional bond with Him.

Prayer is speaking to God with all the reverence and respect He deserves. After all, God created Heaven and Earth, and He created you.

Just as proper protocol is applied when addressing prominent individuals such as royalty, nobles, and diplomats, the same applies to God. He is to be revered as the enthroned king whose sovereignty stretches across the universe. Yet, He is intimately involved with each individual and creature on earth.

How do we approach such an awe inspiring being? Jesus Christ, God's Son, gave us an excellent example in the Bible on how to pray. He gave us a template for prayer that is known as The Lord's Prayer. Jesus gave us the elements of prayer so we could speak to God with reverence, sincerity, and thankfulness. Through this pattern for prayer, many have come to experience the power and tenderness of God, His provisions and protection, along with His greatness and our own weaknesses.

He made you and delights in you. He invites you to come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need, (Hebrews 4:16).

If you don't know where to begin or even what to say, then listen to the Prayer Study: "A Passion for Prayer" and come to God’s throne where His mercy and grace is, indeed, waiting for you.
